From the BSA web site:

Boy Scouting provides a series of surmountable obstacles and steps in overcoming them through the advancement method. The Boy Scout plans his advancement and progresses at his own pace as he meets each challenge. The Boy Scout is rewarded for each achievement, which helps him gain self-confidence. The steps in the advancement system help a Boy Scout grow in self-reliance and in the ability to help others.

Troop 2 provides boys the ability to advance through a program rich with opportunities. From campouts and special trips to trained adult leaders and merit badge counselors, the boys never have to look far for advancement.

This page will continue to develop as a resource for advancement. To start, here is an alphabetical list Merit Badges and Troop 2 Merit Badge counselors . There are links on that page that will take you to the requirements for every merit badge.

Note that the Historic Merit Badges the BSA has brought back for the centennial and their counselors are as follows:

Carpentry: Mr. Meng and Mr. St.Amand   Official BSA Requirements

Pathfinding: Mr. Bradney and Mr. Horton   Official BSA Requirements

Tracking: Mr. Ambroziak and Mr. Kleczewski   Official BSA Requirements

For rank requirements Troop 2 defines "active in your troop" as a scout who participates in just 50% of troop activities in a twelve month period. This allows scouts who take part in activities outside of scouting (work, sports, theatre, band, etc.) to also advance. Scouts can check their campout attendance record on the bulletin board in the basement where a list is posted monthly. As a special consideration, scouts who attend summer camp or a week long high adventure trip can count that as 2 campouts for the purpose of meeting their 50% participation requirement.

However positions of leadership will have their own set of requirements, usually specifying a higher level of commitment. Leadership Position applications are available from Mr. Cook.
