Flag Retirement

When: Saturday - October 3, 2015 – starting at 6 p.m.

Where: Wheaton VFW Post 2164 N731 Papworth Street, Wheaton IL 60187 (630-668-8756)

Who: Everyone is welcome to attend but we are extending a special invitation to the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Veterans and members of the surrounding area Public Safety Departments.

Please join us for a Flag Retirement Ceremony. This is an honorable and respectful way of disposing of old and worn flags. We are looking for participants (Scouts, Veterans and public safety members) interested in participating in the ceremony. Please RSVP by September 14th by contacting David Carlson at dc61392@att.net

The ceremony will include the Pledge of Allegiance, benediction and a history of the flag. A ceremonial flag will be prepared for retirement as it is folded and passed among the participants to the reading of poem “Old Glory”. The flag will then will be retired to the fire. The ceremony will end at dusk. At that time the Post’s main flag will be lowered for evening colors and this will conclude ceremony. (The remainder of the flags will continued to be retired throughout the rest of the evening without formal ceremony.) Afterwards, light refreshments will be served and the Post canteen will be open for adults to enjoy.
